The Gillies Skin Hook is used in general surgical procedures, like mastectomies or thyroidectomy procedures, to offer gentle retractions of the edges of the skins. They are also used to prevent the improper alignment of a wound,s edges while suturing curved or lengthy wounds, especially in apparent wounds where final appearance is paramount. This makes it an essential instrument in plastic surgery. It has an overall length of 7 inches and consists of a flat handle as well as a long slender shaft with a curved sharp tip to hold the skin with a single puncture.
